Wingos: AI-Powered Learning Platform Officially Launched in Luxembourg

Developed as part of a research project at the SnT Research Centre of the University of Luxembourg and funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), Wingos was officially launched on 22 July at the Digital Learning Hub on the Belval Campus in Esch-sur-Alzette. The platform combines artificial intelligence with pedagogical principles to deliver personalised learning while keeping teachers in control of content and student progress.
The launch event brought together researchers, educators, institutional representatives, partners and international experts around a shared ambition: to show how artificial intelligence can become a meaningful tool for education when designed with pedagogy at its core. The programme included a presentation of Wingos’ vision and roadmap, followed by two panel discussions focusing on AI in Education and Digital Sovereignty & Trusted AI Infrastructure for Education.
As Djamila Aouada, Deputy Director at SnT, explained: “If you do it right, you actually can empower education and make learning accessible for everyone. Wingos is a great opportunity to provide equal opportunities for all learners while keeping teachers and their expertise at the centre of the learning experience.”
AI in education
The first panel brought together Philippe Hiligsmann, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of Luxembourg, Nina Hall, MLL & EAL Specialist and Founder of The Language Learning; Giles Kerridge, Assistant Head (Academic) at Lycée Edward Steichen Luxembourg and Amélie Madinier, Wingos EiR (Entrepreneur-in-Residence) and Executive Director at Aureus Ars & Scientia. The discussion was moderated by Serge Linckels. Together, the panelists explored the key conditions for developing artificial intelligence that genuinely addresses the needs of education.
The discussion highlighted the importance of research in driving educational innovation, the challenges multilingualism presents for AI models, and the need to design tools that support rather than replace teachers. Several speakers also stressed the importance of bridging research and practice by involving educators, schools and future users throughout the development process.
For Giles Kerridge, one of the biggest challenges Wingos helps address personalisation of learning in increasingly diverse classrooms. “Teachers are encouraged to provide personalised content for each individual student according to their learning style and ability. When teachers have a large class full of students, that’s almost impossible to do effectively. Wingos addresses this by providing personalised content for each student.”
Wingos in action: A live demonstration
The event continued with a live demonstration of Wingos, presented by Eya Khamassi, UX Designer and Research & Development Specialist at the SnT Research Centre of the University of Luxembourg and Project Manager of Wingos, alongside Mohamed Adel who guided attendees through the platform’s core functionalities.
During the session, the demonstration showed how Wingos adapts learning pathways to each learner’s level and needs while enabling teachers to retain full control over their educational content.
The demonstration generated strong interest among attendees. “What stood out to me most was that participants didn’t simply like what they saw; they genuinely wanted to try the platform themselves,” said Eya Khamassi. “Their curiosity and willingness to test Wingos showed that they could immediately see its potential and relevance”. According to the project team, this enthusiastic response confirmed that Wingos’ personalised approach addresses real challenges faced by educators in the classroom.
Trust, Data and Digital Sovereignty
The second panel brought together Sadia Berdaï, Head of the Compliance Division at the CNPD, Bert Verdonck, CEO of the Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS), Frédéric Habets, Head of Health and Public Sector Engagement at LuxProvide, and Martin Kracheel, from the Curriculum Development Division at SCRIPT. The panel was moderated by Mohamed Adel, CEO of Dokeo. The discussion centred on the challenges of building trustworthy AI infrastructure for education, with discussions focusing on data protection, digital sovereignty and the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence in schools.
As AI becomes increasingly embedded in education, panelists agreed that innovation must go hand in hand with trust. “We need to be able to trust these new tools,” said Bert Verdonck. “There’s still a lot of work to be done in order to get back in control of what these tools use and how they can be used safely”.
The discussion concluded that educational AI solutions must be designed from the outset to protect teachers’ and students’ data, ensuring they remain secure, transparent and under human oversight.
Looking Ahead
The launch of Wingos marks the beginning of the platform’s next phase of development. Building on years of research, the team is now focused on growing its community of teachers, schools and partners through pilot projects and collaborations, with the ambition of making the platform available to educators across Europe.
As Amélie Madinier, explains: “We hope Wingos will be available across Europe and support schools in many different countries. We want it to be a platform that can help the maximum number of schools, students and teachers.” With its research-driven approach and commitment to trustworthy AI, Wingos now enters its next chapter - aiming to make personalised, inclusive and responsible learning accessible to classrooms across Europe.
