Tackling Dementia with AI Powered Eye Care - Siegfried Wagner - TEDxLondonBusinessSchool

by TEDx Talks I6:58 pm, 18th October

Dementia has become the no.1 cause of death in the UK, however, around 50% of cases are astonishingly left undiagnosed, due to the insufficient traditional diagnosis process. Siegfried Wagner, an ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, has been working on this AlzEye research project, which attempts to use the eye as a window through which to detect signals about the health of other organs. Join Siegfried to check out this ground-breaking diagnosis process powered by deep learning technologies. Siegfried Wagner is a Research Fellow and ophthalmologist at University College London and Moorfields Eye Hospital. Inspired as a medical student by the role of eye exams in diagnosing people with HIV and Tuberculosis in South Africa, Siegfried uses statistical modelling and artificial intelligence techniques to understand how changes in our eyes can represent overall health, from heart disease to dementia. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
